Stop Smoking

'CALLING ALL SMOKERS'

glamourous smoking

Do you wish you didn't smoke? Have you tried to give up to no avail?

Are you concerned about the smoking ban, and how it will affect you?

Have you smoked for so long that you don't see the point in stopping now?

If ANY of the above apply -

YOU ARE JUST THE PERSON WE WOULD LOVE TO MEET.

We run clinics every Thursday evening specifically designed to give smokersthe best support available to help them to quit (increasing the success rate by four times, compared with no support).

We hold informal group sessions which can be accessed through The Wycliffe Medical Practice, or The Masharani practice (Patients from either surgery are welcome).

They are organised and run by Jan Brenkley, one of our practice nurses (with smoking cessation certification).

This clinic started in March 07, but we have been providing smoking cessation in our practice for 3 years, and before that in Warwickshire, and we are very proud of our high success rate (well above the national average).

We provide nicotine replacement therapy, and organise prescriptions for alternative therapies, such as tablets to reduce cravings etc.

The programme is client centred and emphasis is on ways of helping quitters.

Some topics covered include;

  • Coping with cravings.
  • Ways of breaking very old ingrained habits
  • Coping with stress without smoking
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Prevention or limitation of weight gain.
  • We focus on changing the way smokers think about tobacco, aiming for lifelong non smokers.

We also run a mentoring scheme, where successful quitters mentor beginners.

An initial assessment is approximately 60 minutes to 90 minutes in length, and typically there are 3-9 clients in each group. Thereafter on a weekly basis clients are invited to drop in between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday evenings.

Tea and coffee with biscuits are available, and also a chance to talk to other people going through the same thing.

Carbon Monoxide monitoring is performed at each visit, purely as a motivational tool, as it is usually the first evidence of the body detoxifying after the quit date.

Jan will be available for ongoing support.

If you are considering quitting please give us a try.
