SWINE FLU OPEN CLINIC:

SATURDAY 16th JANUARY 2010 - 9am - 11am

Anybody who is in the risk group for swine flu (see below) can come to the surgery with out an appointment between 9 and 11am on Saturday 16th January.

Swine flu vaccination

We are now holding Swine Flu Vaccination Clinics for the following people.

1. Pregnant women

2. Immunocompromised people -

  • either by disease or medication; i.e. people with cancer, HIV, a damaged or no spleen, on chemotherapy, or high dose steroids.

3. People in the same household as immunocompromised people

4. People aged over 6 months AND have a chronic health problem

  • Heart problems (congenital heart disease, previous heart attack, angina)
  • Lung problems - asthma or COPD needing regular steroid inhalers
  • Kidney problems
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Stroke or TIA (mini-stroke)
  • Diabetes, whether on diet alone or drugs
  • Neurodevelopmental problems

All of the above with the exception of normally healthy pregnant women are also eligible for a seasonal flu vaccination which can be given at the same appointment.

People with high blood pressure but no other problems do not need the vaccination.

If you aged over 65 please read this important information

  • If you do not suffer from any chronic health problems you will not be eligible for a swine flu vaccination under current government guidelines.

Everyone who will be over the age of 65 by 31 March 2010 is eligible for a seasonal flu vaccination and we recommend that you arrange this as soon as possible

    What are the symptoms?

    If you have a temperature of more than 38C (100.4F) and any two of the following symptoms you may have swine flu: tiredness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or cough, loss of appetite, aching muscles, diarrhoea or vomiting.

    What should I do?

    Do not come to the surgery. You can now access The National Pandemic Flu Service which will assess your symptoms and enable access to advice and treatment if required. The service can be accessed by http://www.direct.gov.uk/pandemicflu – or call 0800 1 513 100

    You should contact your doctor direct rather than using The National Pandemic Flu Service if you have a serious underlying disease, you are pregnant, you have a sick child under one year of age, you or your child's condition suddenly gets worse or your condition is getting worse after 7 days (5 for a child).
